Christmas Morning From the Freezer: Croissants and Pain au Chocolat Without the Early Wake-Up

Stack of pain au chocolat on a blue background

You can serve warm croissants and pain au chocolat on Christmas morning without setting an alarm: they go straight from the freezer into a 375°F (190°C) oven for 18 to 20 minutes, with no overnight proof and no dough to prepare the night before. Order early, keep the box in your freezer, and Christmas brunch is mostly done.

The morning plan

When What
Before you open presents Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C)
Next Put frozen croissants and pain au chocolat on a parchment-lined tray
18 to 20 minutes later Golden brown; cool briefly on a rack
Meanwhile Set the table, butter, coffee

Both cards list the same oven temperature and time, so they bake on one tray. If you would rather not heat the full oven for a few pieces, use the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Full guides: frozen croissants and frozen pain au chocolat. Bake to an internal temperature of at least 74°C (165°F).

A freezer brunch menu

Bake the pastries first. Baguettes need the hotter oven and a longer time, so they suit lunch or dinner better than the breakfast tray.

Your Christmas Eve checklist

  1. Make space in the freezer. A box arrives frozen and should go straight into it.
  2. Move the butter to the fridge to thaw.
  3. Put a parchment-lined tray and a cooling rack where you can find them in the morning.
  4. Decide who is in charge of the oven. Preheat it before anyone opens a present.

That is the whole job. There is nothing to knead, shape or proof, which is the point: the morning belongs to the family, not to the kitchen.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really bake croissants on Christmas morning without proofing them overnight?

Yes. They are proofed before they are frozen raw, so they bake straight from the freezer at 375°F (190°C) for 18 to 20 minutes.

Can I bake croissants and pain au chocolat on the same tray?

Yes. Their bake cards list the same oven temperature and time.

When should I order for Christmas?

Order early and check delivery days for your city on the delivery areas page; there is no fulfillment between December 24 and January 5 (see the delivery schedule).

How many pastries do I need per person?

About two each is a good starting point for a brunch with other dishes. Packs go into your box, so add an extra pack of croissants or pain au chocolat if you are feeding a crowd.

Can I send a box as a Christmas gift?

Yes. Choose a preset on the gifts page and pick the delivery week. It ships frozen on dry ice.
