Best Frozen Croissants in Canada (2026): Raw-Frozen vs Partly Baked vs Grocery Bake-at-Home

Unbaked Atome croissants on a plate

The best frozen croissant in Canada depends on what you want to do at home: raw-frozen croissants that are proofed before freezing, like ours, bake straight from the freezer in about 20 minutes with no overnight proof, partly baked ones are already baked part way and usually finish faster, and grocery bake-at-home dough often needs a proof first. We are Atome Bakery and we sell raw-frozen croissants, so we say plainly where we sit in this comparison.

The three types, side by side

Raw-frozen (Atome is this) Partly baked Grocery bake-at-home
What you receive Shaped, proofed, frozen before any baking Baked part way, then frozen Frozen dough from a freezer aisle

These are category descriptions, not rankings of other brands. Packaging varies, so check any box you buy for its bake and proof instructions.

What to check before you buy

  1. Do you have to proof it? If the box says to thaw overnight, it is a proofing job, not a 20 minute bake.
  2. Raw or partly baked? Raw-frozen croissants go through one full bake in your oven, so the aroma, colour and layers happen at home.
  3. Ingredients. Look for butter in the list. Our full ingredient list and allergens are on the product page.
  4. Delivery. A frozen product must stay frozen. We ship on dry ice in insulated boxes, and replace any box that arrives thawed if you send a photo within 24 hours.
  5. Price per pastry. Compare the whole basket: shipping and minimums matter. We ship free above $149.

  • Ships frozen across Canada (not to the US), in 2 to 5 business days in Greater Vancouver and Sea to Sky and 3 to 9 elsewhere.

See the full method in how to bake frozen croissants and the croissants (3-pack) page.

How we would test any frozen croissant

If you are choosing between products, try this at home and judge for yourself:

  • Follow the box exactly the first time. Note the time it takes from freezer to table, including any proofing.
  • Look at the colour and the layers when you cut one in half.
  • Taste one warm and one an hour later. Most croissants are best warm.
  • Count the effort: did you need to plan the night before?

Where raw-frozen is not the best choice

If you want a pastry with the shortest possible bake, a partly baked croissant will likely beat us. If you want to buy a single item in a store today, a grocery freezer is the obvious route. Raw-frozen is for people who want a croissant that bakes in their oven, planned for later, and delivered.

Get it delivered across Canada

Use the one-time box (6, 10 or 12 items at $149, $199 or $219), or pick a preset on the gifts page. Delivery takes 2 to 5 business days in Greater Vancouver and Sea to Sky and 3 to 9 business days elsewhere; see delivery areas for your city. Our bake cards are collected on the baking instructions page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between raw-frozen and partly baked croissants?

Raw-frozen croissants are frozen before any baking and are baked once at home. Partly baked croissants are baked part way before freezing and finished at home.

Do frozen croissants need to be thawed?

It depends on the product. Our classic croissants bake straight from frozen with no proofing. Our vegan croissants are the exception: they need a 6 to 8 hour proof first. Always follow the box.

Which frozen croissants can be delivered across Canada?

Atome croissants ship frozen to the provinces we serve; see delivery areas. We do not ship to the United States.

How do I bake them?

Our classic croissants (3-pack): 375°F (190°C) for 18 to 20 minutes in the oven, or 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes in an air fryer. Vegan croissants and the larger packs have their own bake cards, shown on each product page.
