How Atome Bakery Grew from a Local Vancouver Bakery to Shipping Canada-Wide 🥖🇨🇦

Once Upon a Time in Vancouver… ✨

Alice and Lucas, two French founders who missed the bread of their childhood, created a bakery to bring authentic sourdough bread to Canada. Their dream? To make bread “comme en France” and deliver it straight to people’s doors. And so Atome Bakery was born in 2022. Just like that! We even caught the attention of the local press: The Vancouver Sun featured our story, a milestone that showed us how much the city was ready for real sourdough!

From a Local Vancouver Sourdough Bakery to All of British Columbia

At first, deliveries were limited to Vancouver and its surroundings. Since then, orders now leave our facility and reach local customers the very same day, while the rest of British Columbia receives their boxes overnight. Step by step, our Vancouver bakery grew, and so did our customers’ love for sourdough bread across Canada 🥰

Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba: Expanding Sourdough Delivery in Western Canada

By March 2024, Alberta became part of the adventure, with boxes reaching Calgary and Edmonton within two days! Then in June 2025, Saskatchewan joined the map, marking another milestone in our expansion. Manitoba is still a work in progress, but our goal is clear: to soon deliver our sourdough to families in every corner of the province!

Ontario: Our Newest Adventure

“What about Ontario?” you may ask. You’re right, this is our newest and most exciting chapter yet! By mid to late September, Ontarians will be able to receive preset boxes locally prepared, fresh and frozen, ready to bake at home. But don’t worry, the fully customizable ‘Build Your Box’ experience is on its way, so stay tuned!

Of course, not every expansion is straightforward. In June 2025, we briefly opened deliveries to the United States. But by July, border logistics had become too costly and complex for a small business like ours, forcing us to close that chapter, for now. This is only a “see you later,” as we fully intend to return when the conditions are right 💛🇺🇸

 

Behind the Scenes of Atome Bakery’s Deliveries

The process is simple but carefully orchestrated. Orders are prepared with love in Vancouver and frozen at peak freshness! For local deliveries, it's the same day; in BC, it’s overnight; in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, it’s two days. And in Ontario, with the new facility, delivery will soon be faster and easier.

What’s next for Atome Bakery?

Our eyes are set on Eastern Canada! Quebec is high on our list, but we want to take things step by step to make sure that every order arrives frozen and perfect, thanks to dry ice, and that every new customer enjoys the same quality as in Vancouver.
